War Memorial

The granite War Memorial in the Town Square was erected in 1921 and commemorates those who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars.  It is the focus of the annual Remembrance Day Service in November.

It is octagonal on plan with the main structure sitting on a six stepped plinth of plain ashlar with weathere copings.  There is a buttressed stage above with inset inscribed panels, then an open stage with traceried lights, a moulded cornice, buttress finials and radiating ribs up to a central cross.
